Rememory is a word coined by Toni Morrison in the 1987 novel, "Beloved." The founder of Rememory Directory was inspired by Morrison's use of rememory as a tool to reframe, recollect and reclaim narratives of the past.
Morrison's writings explored the problematics of remembering an under-documented African American past. Morrison refers to it as “recollecting and remembering as in reassembling the members of the body, the family, the population of the past.”Source: Ágnes Zsófia Kovács via Metacritic Journal
Rememory Directory began as a thesis project at Parsons School of Design in 2019 by designer and art director, Mia Coleman.
